We have to project new meanings which initially appear to be nonsensical. It’s how intellectually we evolve.

Artist, filmmaker, writer, poet and art theorist Marcus Reichert was born in the States in 1948. He currently lives and works in France. He has been a friend of Francis Bacon, Peter Beard, George Macbeth, and Ronnie Kray amongst other notable personalities. He began painting in oils at the age of 8 and in 1969 at the age of 21 he held his first solo exhibition at the Gotham Book Mart & Gallery (home to the Surrealists during WWII), in New York. His 1980 film Union City, starring Debbie Harry, was acclaimed as ‘an unqualified masterpiece’. His filmwork is in the archive of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. His latest book Art & Ego: Marcus Reichert in Converstion with Edward Rozzo was published in 2007. He currently works as the editor of the Art Theory Section of Ziggurat Books International.
